Delete the timeline
We were taught the importance of having a plan and a timeline, and I also teach this regarding financial planning, savings, and debt repayment. However, it's crucial to recognize that timelines can often become sources of stress and can even pose dangers. Holding too firmly to these timelines can blind us to the many variables in life that are beyond our control. These unforeseen circumstances can delay our plans in significant ways.
Moreover, an overemphasis on timelines can prevent us from discerning the true nature of opportunities that present themselves to us. What may appear to be a blessing could ultimately be a curse in disguise. Consider how I once envisioned getting married and starting a family by the age of 30. When the wrong person entered my life, I became fixated on that timeline, believing I had found everything I wanted. Clinging to that toxic relationship clouded my judgment, preventing me from recognizing the reality of my situation.
Ultimately, it was only through a divine intervention, by my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, that I was able to let go. I learned that prioritizing my timeline over my well-being could have led me to a monumental mistake. When I allowed myself to release my rigid timeline and to trust in God’s plan, I was positioned for a healthier, more fulfilling relationship.
Fixating on timelines can lead us to overlook God’s greater purpose in our lives. It’s essential to remain open to the possibilities and plans that may be unfolding around us, ensuring we align ourselves with what God truly meant for our journey. Embracing flexibility can help us to avoid missing out on opportunities that align with our true potential and destiny.
